Magic Moments
Some drunken chav staggering in the middle of the road blaspheming at a car that had the audacity to also be in the road and to beep for him to get out of the way.

Downside of swimming in the morning: I reek of chlorine. I will shift this extra weight though. I'm sick of people saying I'm fat just because I'm not the "perfect 10".

Been thinking about various fundamental things about my life lately and made a few decisions. Hopefully things should get a bit better from now on.

BBC NEWS | World | Middle East | 'Terrible dilemma' over hostages. I completely support that these kidnappers cannot be negotiated with. They've killed at least one and probably two men and are threatening to kill a third. If we give them what they want, what message are we giving them? "If you want something, just resort to murder and bloody violence and we'll give you everything you want onnaplate". No. These actions cannot be rewarded. I almost support the view that for every request made in such a manner, we should do the opposite. They want troops removed? Send double the number. They want scientists freed? Kill them or arrest more. This might make them think twice before kidnapping. Of course it wouldn't work that way, you only have to look at what has gone on in Northern Ireland to see that such eye-for-an-eye tactics only lead to escalating, never-ending violence and many, many more innocent lives destroyed. Additionally, because we (on the most part) actually care about and respect human life, we cannot do this and this is why the "good guys" will always lose, one way or another.
But what we can do is refuse to give them what they want. These evil actions cannot be seen to be successful else many more people will suffer the same fate. Of course it's easy for me to say that though as it's not my boyfriend/brother/father/best-friend etc. I wonder if I would see things quite the same if it was.
I really hope that Mr. Bigley is freed and soon, although it doesn't seem very hopeful.

Morning Shennanigans
I had a horrible dream that there was a massive flood and we all had to go to certain bases for safety. I finally found one of the bases and while I was there I realised that Minsc and Boo were going to die.
I overslept and when I got up I did my usual check of the cage to see what the rats were up to. I peered into the tunnel, they weren't there. "Oh they must be in their box" I thought, moving round so I could see into it. That's when I noticed it. The bloody door was open and the bastards had escaped. After a bit of a panic and a quick, ratless search and scan for any possible exits from the flat (luckily there are none), I got Matt up to help me find them. Unfortunately I am still in the early stages of sorting out my flat so I have boxes and books and all kinds stacked up everywhere. To my relief it wasn't long before I spotted a tail (gives them away every time, thank god I didn't get a hamster), they'd only found a hidey-hole underneath the biggest, hardest-to-shift pile of stuff possible. Anyway, several minutes later they were back in the cage and I now have a pulled shoulder muscle. Well I hope they're happy! I need to get a padlock for the cage door. Little buggers.

Saw The Terminal last night. Nice film. Some happy bits, some sad bits, some ridiculous bits and some very old film cliches. Worth seeing but don't expect to have your socks knocked off.

I've just got back from seeing Return of the King at the Art's Centre (yeah yeah it's out on DVD but it's better at the cinema mmkay) and it was still awesome despite some bloke directly behind me with an annoying plummy voice, explaining to his presumable girlfriend the whole plot. IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE FIRST OR SECOND FILM THEN DON'T FUCKING GO AND SEE THE THIRD. IT DOESN'T TAKE A FUCKING GENIUS. Ahem. Anyway, goodfilm.

Ratbag
Minsc will now sit on my shoulder. I need to teach him to say "Pieces of eight". To think I thought he was the shy one. Boo is still psycho. I gave him a blackberry and he got juice round his mouth which looked like blood. Coupled with his glowing red eyes he could have been devil-rat, just arrived from Hades. Cool.

Urgh
I got about 2 hours sleep last night.
Go for the eyes, Boo
Rats are still cute. They've started scrapping a bit, which I am monitoring closely. If it happens too often or gets too vicious, I'll have to think about separating them. I also have to think about what I'm going to do with them while I go to France in February.
Further comical/cute stuff:
- Minsc was climbing up the side, slipped and fell on top of Boo. Boo was non too pleased and this led to one of their little scraps which then led to Minsc chasing Boo around the cage.
- Minsc was climbing on top of the tube (which is hung from the roof of the cage), Boo was inside. Boo suddenly launched himself out of the tube, making it swing. After much scrabbling, Minsc was off.
- Minsc will now climb up my arm. It tickles like mad though, I have to be careful not to launch the poor thing across the room.
- They're so cute when they yawn and stretch, especially when they're curled up together.

Bang Bang
The next 100 or so blogs will likely be me going on and on about my new furry friends. You have been warned.
Minsc
An adorable, sweet-tempered brown and white rat and easily the cutest of the two. He'll already let me handle him although he's still quite wary of it and it doesn't take long before he chickens out and scampers back into his cage.
Boo
Fucking mental rat on speed. Runs around the cage as if he's trying out for the Grand Prix. He's an albino rat which deducts from the cute factor as he has red eyes which glow demonically in certain light, but that's cool in its own way. He's not too bright; he keeps trying to take my thumb back into the cage to eat and got stuck trying to fit through a gap that was obviously too narrow. He's very skittish and won't let me handle him yet.
The Cool/Crayzee Things They Do
- They like to jump on each other for some reason. very comical to watch.
- Similarly they both decide they want to use the water bottle at the same time and try to shove each other out of the way.
- They sleep curled up together. Awww.
- They have this tube that they like to hide in. Sometimes one will poke its head out one side and the other will poke its head out the other like some huge, double-headed sausage-rat.
- This morning I called "hello ratties!", when entering the lounge. They both came running out to greet me.
The last one is especially cool as they used to hide whenever I went near them and now they come out to see me when I get in. It's only because they think I'm going to give them treats though, mercenary little bastards.
